I read an article the other day about parents who pay to get their kids internships. Yes you heard it right PAY, to get an UNPAID internship. Here is a link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/09/business/09intern.html
I found it utterly fascinating and scary at the same time. Have times gotten so bad that we have to pay to work and not get paid in return? Especially after you have graduated, the thought of paying to not get paid to work sounds REALLY scary.
So why am I talking about this anway? Well starting last week, August 3rd I began my non stop work and commute fest to New York City. It won’t end till August 22nd when I will finally get a day off. Why is this so? My two internships and my part time job with the Brooklyn Cyclones. (http://thebrooklyncyclones.blogspot.com/)
Maybe I should sell one of my internships and get paid?? Joking aside, these three internships/jobs are what is responsible for my daily comutting which I have mused about earlier. Thanks to Baseball in Brooklyn and my 5 day a week internship schedule I will be in NYC everyday until Aug 22nd. Its a lot of ground to cover, and a lot of sleep to lose, but you know what? Its what you gotta to do to make it in this biz(well at least I hope).
So cross your fingers for me, and if your a parent looking to buy an internship, let me know.
